Camp Coolamatong's Director engaged Island Energy to design and install two solar systems for each of their camps. 19.89kW at Lake Camp and 48kW at Farm camp.
Their combined energy bill across the two sites before installing solar was $19,804.00 per year, which after installing solar is only $3,434.00. That's a huge saving of -$16,370.00 per year! The money saved every year can be repurposed to other important operating costs such as more staff, new equipment or capital improvement upgrades.
Located on the beautiful Banksia Peninsula in the Gippsland Lakes region of Victoria, is a school camp and accommodation venue that hosts a wide range of groups including schools, universities, families and community groups.
Camp Coolamatong Director ,Chris Kynoch "It’s important to us to help maintain the environment, Solar was on my radar for a little while and the opportunity came up to work with Island Energy, so we’re putting solar panels on both of our sites, it’s really exciting for us to be able to reduce our carbon footprint by around 35 tonne a year which makes a positive difference to the environment”

During the consultation phase Island Energy’s CEC accredited designers visited the camp multiple times to assess the suitability and viability of installing solar, to provide the camp director with clear advice and direction specific to the venues energy requirements.
Accredited Electrical Engineers undertook a comprehensive assessment of the property to ensure electrical and Grid requirements of the Distributed Network Service Provider, AusNet would be met. The system took 2 x days for 5 x accredited electricians to install.
We worked with the camp to install on dates and times that wouldn’t impact negatively on their busy operations. The Camp continued to operate as normal. Understanding the importance of the school camp and education requirements when working around children, Island Energy’s endorsed electricians all hold valid Working With Children cards to ensure child safety is paramount.
